I visited this place with my friends for a camping and hiking weekend a few months back in summer. We were captivated by many exhilarating stories of the Appalachian trail passing through the park. - $2/person on weekdays (Memorial Day to Labour Day – Peak season)
- $5/person on weekends and holidays

Planning a Visit to Greenbrier State Park Maryland: Ideal Season
We have been adjusting our schedule and planning to a weekend at Greenbrier State Park since early summer last year. In early fall, we were finally all set to go on a trip in the mountains and experience a camping weekend. So, if you are thinking of going for water activities and other recreational things to enjoy at this park, I recommend you to go in summer. However, spring and fall are the best time to go camping there. Expect a large crowd and noisy atmosphere in summer, especially on weekends.


Fun Outdoor Adventures and Exciting Activities at Greenbrier State Park
1- Hiking
Hiking works like a soulful therapy for me, as I feel peace and take pleasure when surrounded by tall trees and beautiful open landscapes while figuring the paths to reach the goal. Highlighting the trails of Greenbrier State Park highlights, it provides around 11 miles of trails, allowing hikers to explore nature’s beauty and wildlife habitats.
Reaching an altitude of 1600 feet with steeper climbs, Washington Monument is a 6.6 mile trail, providing great views. I was geared up to try this trail and test my strength, as it is a bit more challenging for a moderate level hiker. Other famous hiking trails in this state park include:
- Big Red Trail – 5.2 miles
- Greenbrier Lake Loop – 1.3 miles
- Big Red and Rock Oak Fire Trail Loop – Varying length
- Camp Loop Trail
- Yellow Trail
- Water Tank Trail



An access to Appalachian Trails through Bartman’s Hills from the eastern edge of the park allows hikers to explore the stunning landscape. Moreover, other day hikes spanning the Appalachian trails involve Annapolis Rock and Weverton Cliffs.

Making it a memorable and fun experience, camping at Greenbrier State Park Maryland offers various amenities. For example, visitors can get access to stunning lake views, beautiful hiking sites, and 165 campsites (a few have electric hookups). One of the key reasons to visit this park was to experience the camping and enjoy the weekend in nature. We were thrilled exploring the campsites at the park and decided to set the tent at one of the group sites. The place was perfect for large groups, trips, and families. Additionally, we loved staying there and relished every moment we spent there, far from the bustling city life. All of us tried our cooking skills and grilled the fish, which , surprisingly, turned out great. The key amenities and activities at the camping sites to attract visitors include:

3- Beach Relaxation and Swimming
The white sandy beach at the Greenbrier State Park is what you all need for a relaxing getaway. To boot, the lakeside beach, perfect for families with kids, is an ultimate destination for cooling down in summer. Moreover, the facility of lifeguards at the beach makes it a safe experience for swimmers. We completely enjoyed the Greenbrier State Park beach fun, playing some random games, guitar, and refreshing our college memories.
4- Other Water Activities
- Boating is another fun activity that we enjoyed a lot, riding over the beautiful 42 acres man-made lake in the heart of stunning mountains. Moreover, Greenbrier State Park allows visitors to come with their electric trolling motor boats. To boot, rental paddleboats and rowboats are also available for visitors.

- The park is also a famous fishing destination, housing various fish species in the lake. Furthermore, a fishing license is compulsory for all anglers and fishing enthusiasts age 16 and above.
5- Wildlife Exploration
All those who love observing the wildlife habitats and birdwatching, Greenbrier State Park Maryland offers chances to get a close sight of various wildlife animals and birds. For example, Red Fox, Bald Eagles, White-tailed Deer, and many more.
