Moreover, recognized as the best outdoor destinations in Maryland, it is a delightful spot with dynamic landscape and eight stunning recreational areas for outdoor fun and adventures. From a thrilling to relaxing experience, visitors can delve in a wealth of fun things to do there.

As a nature explorer and fun seeker, I have been to this park many times and discovered various hidden gems. Additionally, I have heard of its 200 miles trails comprising 72 developed and maintained terrains. Let’s find out what Patapsco State Park Maryland offers to its visitors and how you can make most of your visit there. Important Visitor Information about Patapsco State Park

The park operates and welcomes visitors from 9:00 AM to Sunset with a specific schedule for particular activities and areas. You can go over the details here. Furthermore, the admission ticket of the park allows access to all areas, excluding some activities like camping.

  • For Marylanders, $3 per person during weekdays and $5 per person during weekend
  • Non-Marylanders will pay additional fees of $2 on weekdays and weekends

I personally love visiting there in Spring and Summer, getting easy access to all recreational areas and enjoying camping along with other fun things. 1- Hollofield Area

Occupying the central area of the park, Hollofield Area is one of my most favorite spots to visit with my family. For those who want to experience the Patapsco State Park camping, this place is one-of-a-kind. To boot, the features that attracts visitors to Patapsco Valley State Park Hollofield area include:

  • Remarkable scenery of Patapsco River
  • Mesmerizing views of lush greenery and seasonal changes of spring and fall
  • Campground, featuring 73 campsites, including electric hookups

  • Best hiking trails for all skill hikers, including River Ridge Trail, Ole Ranger Trail, Peaceful Pond Trail, and Dam Union Trail

2- Avalon Area

Presenting the largest stone railroad in the world, Thomas Viaduct, Patapsco Valley State Park Avalon area is a hidden gem of Maryland’s outdoor adventures. A group of my friends went there last year and we were thrilled exploring the scenic beauty and Patapsco State Park hiking trails. Furthermore, the noteworthy highlights that we discovered there include:

  • Stunning Cascade Falls, accessible through two entrances -one is from Swinging Bridge
  • Cascade falls trails, one of the most beautiful and kid-friendly hiking trails in the park
  • Easy access to Glen Artney Area and  Orange Grove Area

3- Daniels Area

The place with multiple fun things to do and see, Patapsco Valley State Park Daniels Area offers a memorable outdoor escape. Moreover, those seeking the main attractions of this area, here is the breakdown of what I explored and loved about Daniels area:

  • Great trails for hiking and walks, including Daniels Road Trailhead perfect for long and short walks
  • Ghost town, featuring two abandoned churches
  • A stunning man-made waterfall along Daniels Dam
  • A camel’s back cave
  • Kayaking and fishing
  • Family picnic areas

4- Orange Grove Area

My visit to Patapsco Valley State Park Orange Grove Area was so much fun, exploring the remnants of Orange Grove Flour Mill. Significantly, we planned a separate trip to this place because all of us wanted to see every part of this area and spend a full day enjoying the activities there.

  • A gorgeous pedestrian bridge, called Swinging Bridge, over the Patapsco River gives breathtaking views
  • Many easy and beautiful walking and hiking trails

5- McKeldin Area

Joining through the main and south branch of the Patapsco River, McKeldin Area is among the must-visit parts of the park. We were delighted seeing the stunning rapids at this area, but they are not open for swimming, concerning the risk of high currents. 6- Hilton Area

From many of my visits to Patapsco State Park Maryland, another most loved area for me and kids is Hilton Area. Additionally, it welcomes kids of all ages to enjoy playing around and exploring the beauty of the park. Besides, we loved other activities and features of Patapsco Valley State Park Hilton Area, including the following:

  • Known as the oldest area of the park, it has tire playgrounds for kids and picnic shelters
  • Nature Center at Hilton Area features various kid-friendly seasonal programs including Little Sprouts and Junior Rangers
  • Campsites with tents area, mini cabins, and youth groups sites
  • Charming trails along the river and woods, such as Sawmill Branch Trail, Forest Glen Trail, and Santee Branch Trail.
  • Moreover, hiking lovers can get access to Grist Mill Trail through Hilton area

7- Pickall Area

The main attractions of Patapsco Valley State Park Pickall Area are highlighted below:

  • Unfold miles of incredible trails through forest and woodlands

8- Woodstock Area

I visited this park area only once with my friends and we were totally captivated by the stunning fields, forests, and hiking trails. In addition, some exciting features of woodstock area are enlisted as:

  • A peaceful and diverse hiking experience
