The city was our last family gateway, a perfect destination to explore historic sites, delicious food, and multiple outdoor activities. Our last trip to Williamsburg, Virginia was full of fun and adventure, offering chances to discover many charming sites. Furthermore, it allowed us to indulge in various activities. In this article, I will recount the memorable trip of our family to Williamsburg and why this city should is among the best vacation destinations for you and your family.
A Start with Historic Exploration
The journey begins in the early morning with a big smile on our faces and hearts full of joy. For the first day exploration, we decided to start with a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. The museum is the living example of how art and culture can bring the colonial past of the 18th century to life. Moreover, the beautiful architecture, costumed characters, and extensive display of decorative art immersed and captivated us throughout the visit.
Next, we headed to Governor’s Palace, where kids were fascinated watching the grand rooms and interior of this place. We enjoyed listening to the engaging stories of royal governors, who once lived in this Governor’s Palace. As we walked through the beautiful gardens, we were fully captivated by the beauty of this place.
Everybody was hungry after this visit and we decided to stop at Chowning’s Tavern. The interior and ambiance of this restaurant gave aesthetic vibes and appearance of old-era eateries. Furthermore, the kind staff and attentive services made our lunch more delightful.
A Day for Thrills and Spills
The second day in Williamsburg was all about the thrills and spills. The Busch Gardens Williamsburg was our first destination for day 2, a park designed and constructed on European-theme. The roller coaster adventure was the most thrilling part of the day. Furthermore, I couldn’t stop myself screaming on the thrilling ride of the floorless dive coaster while enjoying the picturesque views of the surroundings.
Along with enjoying the rides, the captivated performances at the Globe theater energized us. We enjoyed the Celtic dance performances to the fullest. We couldn’t stop ourselves tapping our feet with the beet and dancers, adding more fun to our adventure.
After relishing a delightful and thrilling day, we sat down at Fat Canary for dinner. Significantly, their menu with locally sourced dishes options, including steamed crabs and dark chocolate mousse triangle were a hit. Additionally, the welcoming atmosphere and overall ambiance made us feel so relaxed and comfortable.
A Tour Through the Ages
For our third day in Williamsburg, Virginia, we decided to first visit Jamestown Settlement, one of the hidden gems among the places to visit in Williamsburg. Exploring the ships that took the residents to Virginia, Powhatan Indian Village, and recreated fort was such an unforgettable experience for all of us. The interactive displays of Native Americans and settlers helped us learn about the colonial era of our ancestors.
Next, we stopped at Jamestown Pie Company for a delicious lunch break before heading to another top destination in Williamsburg, Virginia. Kids loved their apple pie and chicken pot pie, while my husband and I savored their sandwiches and vanilla ice cream.
After a tasty lunch, we went to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, where the stunning art galleries and informative exhibits about the Revolutionary War captivated us. Kids were fascinated walking through the re-created Continental Army encampment while I was all immersed in the artillery showcase.
Final Day for Relaxation and Leisurely Strolls
Our last day in Williamsburg was all about relaxation and leisure stroll through different places to visit in Williamsburg, Virginia. Moreover, the first visit was at Aromas Specialty Coffees & Café to enjoy a fresh breakfast. Undeniably, the freshly brewed coffee and nicely baked cookies with pancakes was nothing less than a perfect and delighter start of our final day.
After enjoying the breakfast, we decided to visit the Williamsburg Botanical Garden, a place with a serene atmosphere and remarkable landscape. In addition, the information about the scientific plants and natural beauty of this place made our day pleasing and so relaxing. Kids were excited playing around and spotting the colorful butterflies, fluttering on the trees and flowers.
We headed to Food For Thought for lunch, a famous restaurant for its creative menu and unique food combinations. Moreover, we were fascinated reading the quotes about logic and wisdom behind each dish. To boot, their food and flavors, and authentic tastes were worth appreciating. Kids enjoyed their fries and sandwiches while my husband and I loved their veggie burger, grits, and shrimps.

Leisurely strolling through the Merchants Square, we explored many gift shops and boutiques and bought some souvenirs to cherish the memories of this trip. Furthermore, Kids were delighted to discover the toys while we enjoyed some organically prepared fudges at The Wythe Candy & Gourmet Shop.
The last dinner of our trip was decided at Second Street American Bistro. Specifically, the cozy and warm ambiance of this place along with an extensive menu marked a perfect end to our journey in Williamsburg.
