Top 10 Maryland athletes to watch in 2024 Summer Olympics

Maryland never disappoints when it comes to their contribution and participation in the World Championships and Olympics. Prolonging the succession, 24 Maryland athletes are going to entertain the world with their remarkable and unforgettable performances in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The stage is set in Paris this year and competitions are scheduled from 26th July to 11th August. Many athletes are debuting in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, while others are eager to collect more Olympic titles.

Vividly, all 24 athletes are worth watching in their respective sport field. However, these top 10 Marylanders garnered my attention and I am excited to witness their glorious accomplishments in the Olympics this year.

Aaron Brooks (Wrestler)

  • Aaron Brooks from Hagerstown, Maryland made his path to the 2024 Summer Olympics by beating David Tailor (86 kg gold winner in 2020 Olympics) in three-series Olympic trials.

  • Furthermore, the reason for Brooks’ popularity and hype is four-times titles of NCAA championship and 163 wins at state level competitions. However, with his debut match in the Olympics, he is all enthusiastic to celebrate a win in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
  • No doubt, Brooks is a formidable athlete, he will be going to face many major threats in his way to the gold medal. For instance, Myles Amine, Dauren Kurugliev, and Hassan Yazdani will push him to his limits. Now, all eyes are on the upcoming matches and the final results, appearing in the next few days.

Quincy Wilson (Track and Field)

  • Just 16 years old, Quincy is the youngest male track and field Olympian from Maryland to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics. Enthusiastically, he will be participating in the Athletic Men’s 4×400 Relay Team, sporting the U.S team on International level.

  • He is appearing for the first time in the Olympics, but performed at other National and International levels. Surprisingly, he is just seven months older than the minimum required age for Olympic participation. Gleefully, he has set the example of achieving goals with passion despite of a young age.
  • He showcased a remarkable performance in Olympic trials by twice breaking the benchmark set by Darrell Robinson in an under-18 race of 400 meters. As well, he set another record of 44.59 seconds in the semi-final, underscoring his talent as an unstoppable Maryland athlete.

Jahmal Harvey (Boxer)

  • With international experience and gold, Jahmal Harvey has qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics. He is debuting his boxing career in Olympics history this year, grasping opportunities to reach the great success heights.

  • The young boxer from Oxon Hill, Maryland displayed a stellar talent in selection matches. Moreover, he is determined to improve his skills for better performance in the upcoming battles.

Ruby Lilley (Skateboarding)

  • From the Maryland farm to the stage of 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Ruby Lilley has come a long way through her hard work and dedication. She was born and raised in Oceanside, Maryland. Later, she got settled in Ocean City, California for skateboard training.

  • The world-ranked skateboarder is all prepared to represent the USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics. She invested her maximum effort into the Women’s park Skateboarding Event to qualify for the Paris Olympics this year. However, she was also a part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but couldn’t make a distinction.
  • With a silver medal in X Games 2023 in Japan, Lilley is one of the top Maryland athletes. With fervor, she will be a treat to watch in Paris Olympics 2024 for all skateboarding lovers.

Katie Ledecky (Swimmer)

  • One of the most decorated and celebrated swimmers from Bethesda, Maryland, Katie Ledecky is another top Maryland athlete in the 2024 Summer Olympics. Her presence is well-established in all World Championships and many previous Olympics, as she owns multiple gold medals.

  • To add to this, she already has 8 Olympic gold medals and is all driven to attain more achievements in her success list. Moreover, her victory register holds more medals than any female swimmer in the swimming world.

Kevin Durant (Basketball)

  • Competing in the last three Olympics and winning 3 gold medals for the USA Basketball Team, Durant made his name on the top in Olympic history. Coming from Prince George’s County, Durant made the state proud in many fields.

  • He is dominating the basketball world with his skills including defense, rebounding, and ball handling. He is among the top players in the 75th NBA anniversary team.
  • Besides, the selection team and coaches closely watched his game in the Olympic 2024 trials. The decided was made to keep him in the team as a key force in world basketball competitions.

Erin Gemmell (Swimmer)

  • A middle-distance freestyle swimmer, Erin Gemmell, is from Potomac, Maryland. Her exceptional swimming style and techniques are proof that she is born to rule the water. She started swimming at the age of 4 under the training of his father who was the swimming coach to Katie Ledecky.

  • She grabbed the spot in this year’s Olympics by excelling in 800 meter freestyle at trial, showcasing her ardor for this sport.
  • Gold medalist at the World Junior Championship in 2019, Gemmell is taking part in the 4×100 meter event in the 2024 Summer Olympics. Thrillingly, Gemmell will be a tough competition for all elite swimmers in the 2024 Olympics, as she has a great command over the aquatic sports.

Tatiana Nazlymov (Fencing)

  • Native to Bethesda, Maryland, Tatiana Nazlymov has fencing passion in her blood, as her grandfather and father were successful fencers. Furthermore, her grandfather got the title of three-times Olympian and her father built a fencing academy to train new fencers.

  • Fencing-lovers are ready and excited to see Nazlymov in the 2024 Summer Olympics, as she is the leading fencing athlete from Maryland. Although she is representing the USA for the first time in the Olympics, she has all that one needs to reach an achievement in sports.
  • In addition, she is a two-times winner of the World Junior Championship in 2022 and 2023 (Team Women’s Sabre and Individual). Plus, she is also a member of the U.S. National Fencing Team.

Juliette Whittaker (Track and Field)

  • One of top performing athletes from Laurel, Maryland, Juliette, is all geared up for the 2024 Summer Olympics. she will be entering to compete in her signature 800 meter and the supporters are optimistic for her victory.

  • In addition, she has collected the crowns of many national records and two-times won the NCAA 800 meter championship. With any luck, her sister, Isabella Whittaker, is also participating in the Paris Olympics. The Whittaker sisters made their dream come true through hard work and consistency.

Jessica Stevens (Trampoline gymnast)

  • Jessica Stevens is from Ellicott City, Maryland and one of the top synchronized trampoline gymnasts from Maryland. She wrote history by claiming the success and medal at the World Trampoline Championship. Additionally, she was the first American female to get this title for the USA in the last 49 years.

  • Stevens and Aliaksei Shostak are the female trampoline contestants from the USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics. This is a debut Olympic for Stevens, while Aliaksei is coming for the second time after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
  • Moreover, Bryony Page and Zhu Xueying will be the tough competition for Stevens in the Paris Olympics. With anticipation, their game is under spotlight for gymnastic lovers in the coming series.
